Bournemouth University needed a smarter way to manage parking across its busy, multi-site campus. With a mix of users, inconsistent infrastructure, and rising admin costs, their existing system wasn’t cutting it. This is how they partnered with Hozah to modernise, automate, and simplify campus parking — for everyone.
Universities face a unique challenge when it comes to parking: multiple user types, a mix of car park infrastructure, and the need for airtight compliance, all while delivering a smooth driver experience. Bournemouth University (BU), a sprawling, multi-site campus on the South Coast, was no exception.
Despite its scale and complexity, BU’s existing permit and ANPR system was falling short of expectations. Staff, students (many of whom were VAT-exempt), and visitors each had different needs, but the system wasn’t flexible enough to meet them. Manual processes caused delays, uneven camera coverage created inconsistencies, and the administrative burden was growing.
That’s when BU turned to Hozah.
Partnering with Hozah, BU set out to modernise its parking operation, implementing a fully automated, app-free permit system designed around their specific requirements. From Single Sign-On access to dynamic tariff assignment, the result was a solution that didn’t just work, it transformed.
The system now recognises different user types, processes VAT exemptions automatically, and even offers Pay-As-You-Go options for occasional drivers. And perhaps most impressively, it integrates seamlessly across both ANPR and non-ANPR sites.
For institutions grappling with outdated parking systems or struggling to balance technology with user experience, BU’s journey is a powerful example of what’s possible. Their success lies in a deep understanding of user needs, combined with the smart deployment of technology that doesn’t add complexity for staff or students.
But we’ve only scratched the surface here. Want to learn more about this project? Email us directly at hello@hozah.com for a full case study and discover how BU tackled fragmented infrastructure, automated permit management, and achieved stress-free parking for thousands of users.

UK retail sales and physical space demand are both recovering, shifting the competitive question from filling units to retention and experience. Parking is often a shopper's first and last impression, and barrierless ANPR payment removes that friction at zero capex cost to the landlord.
